RPG Maker Shenanigens

I love messing around with RPG Maker, but my lack of a concrete story has kept me from doing much with it (and was stressing me out a bit tbh). BUT! I have decided to play with RPG Maker like it's a toy and my lil OCs are just dolls in a doll house. That is to say, I'm just messin around for funsies instead of with the goal of actually making something concrete.

OK SO

I really hate the default RPG Maker MV tilesets and sprites. They are SO ugly, but I haven't come across any other cheap/free MV tilesets to use that I like enough. So, I'm editing the default tileset to have a limited color palette (the rosy-42 palette in Aseprite) and making my own character sprites.

I decided to start with character sprites! Specifically my main guy, Asu Naji. I'm not the best spriter, so it took me a couple times to get it right, but eventually I landed on a style I liked.

I then moved on to Hassan Uzun, who I recently decided on/drew a canon design for him! He's one of my favorites to think about, but drawing older people is difficult for me (I'm still learning!). ANYWAY! His sprite was next and arguably more difficult due to his prosthetic and crutch. He turned out well though!

Next was Leaf Ahlgren, who I didn't take any progress shots of, and her twin, Cypress Ahlgren. Cy was WAY harder than his sister, mostly due to his unique hairstyle, but I figured it out!

In between character sprites, I was working on the tileset for Asu's hometown, Ayfulin, Ayksia. Ayfulin was a challenge due to RPG Maker MV's default tilesets being more?? western? I guess. (Ayfulin is inspired by the middle east). Here's the concept sketch for Ayfulin!

And a small snapshot of the 4 characters I've sprited on Ayfulin's main street!

Next, I threw together a couple busts of my characters, in case I want to make lil clips of them talking to each other.

After that I decided to work on Baumstadt, the main port town of Land Von Jerro. The giant tree was a struggle!

That brings us to what I'm currently working on! The East, Asu's ship! This has been the most difficult part of this project, and I'm far from finished with it... But at least I'm at a point where I can share a decent in-progress pic!

I'm currently working on/struggling with the upper deck rooms and after that I'll work below deck!
