Story
Asu Naji grew up in the seaside city of Ayfulin, Ayksia. He often went for trips on his parents' ship long before it became his own and dreamed of a life on the open sea. He loved studying languages and navigation, things he was sure would come in handy when traveling the world.
In 143 a plague wracked through the city, taking with it Asu's parents, grandmother, and first partner, Fatin. Asu was left to take care of his younger brother with the help of his parent's best friend and the quartermaster of The East, Hassan.
Asu decided to take after his parents and become captain of The East. He made the decision to leave his brother, Qassim, behind at the local church orphanage. His reasoning being that the
10-year-old had never been a big fan of sailing.
Upon leaving Ayksia, Asu soon became an alcoholic with a gambling addiction. He struggled with these problems to the point of having to temporarily sell his ship to cover gambling costs. He was able to get his ship back but is still deep in debt. He is now avoiding a debt collector by the name of Sobek Rackham.
One day, a glowing blue orb of water appeared in one of the ship's lanterns. Upon investigation, only Asu could hold the lantern. With the ship's cleric, Asu brought the lantern to a church where it was revealed that Asu has been chosen by the Goddess, Anupriya. However, what he was chosen for is unknown.
Personality
Asu is a bit of an asshole at times, generally replying with sarcasm or sass. Despite this, he is a genuinely caring person; he helps anyone he can, even at a cost to himself. His troubles with addiction and depression lead him to do everything he can to steer people down the right path so they won’t end up like him. He curses like the sailor he is, but many people who only know casual sign language don’t pick up on his foul language.

Hassan
Hassan is Asu's second-in-command and closest friend. He once was the same for Asu's parents.
Jin
Asu's adopted kid. He cares about them more than anyone else in the world and would do anything for them.
Leaf
Asu's current lover. He met her at a bar when he was at his worst. Asu quickly invited her onto the ship and it wasn't long before he promoted her to boatswain.
Fen
One of Asu's previous partners. Fen left on bad terms with Asu and the both of them strongly dislike eachother. Asu only interacts with Fen for Jin's sake.
Berry
One of Asu's previous partners. He still holds feelings for Berry and wishes they were closer. Berry also holds feelings for him, but due to being married to Fen, they worry Asu doesn't like them either.
Qassim
Asu's younger brother. He regrets leaving Qassim behind and wishes to apologize. Qassim, on the other hand, despises Asu for abandoning him. Asu doesn't realize just how much Qassim dislikes him.
Sobek
Asu owes Sobek a considerable sum and is smuggling illegal goods for him. Asu greatly dislikes Sobek's control over him, but it's his own fault. The only other person who knows about the debt and the illegal activity is Hassan.
